You are invited to a
FREE lunch in Depot Park, (Cedar St. between 3rd and 5th; across
the tracks from the train station), every Sunday from Noon to 2
PM.
Having decent food to
eat is a basic human right, not a privilege.
Food Not Bombs is one of the fastest growing
revolutionary movements in North America today and is
gaining momentum all over the world. There are over 120 autonomous
chapters sharing vegetarian food with hungry people and protesting
war and poverty throughout the Americas, Europe and
Australia. The first group was formed in Cambridge,
Mass. in 1980 by anti-nuclear activists. Food Not Bombs
is an all volunteer organization dedicated to nonviolence. Food
Not Bombs has no formal leaders and strives to include everyone
in its decision-making process. Each group recovers food that would
otherwise be discarded and makes fresh hot vegetarian meals that
are served in city parks to anyone without restriction. The groups
also serve free vegetarian meals at protests and other
events.
Here is a true story about Chico's Food Not Bombs.
Why do we serve on
Sunday at noon? For a long time, there was no other free food source
in Chico on Sunday
morning. In fact, the Sunday
meal is the only
reliable, free vegan meal in Chico. We wish we could do this
everyday.
Redding's fledgling Bike Co-op
Perhaps we need a public bike repair space over by the skateboard
park (or something).
Such a facility could instruct bike repair while putting usable
public bikes on Chico's
streets.

Food-Not-Bombers come in a variety of sizes, colors, and
operating systems. Some people discribe us as Anarchists, but I think that's
way too trippy. Without fail, bombers like good, free vegan food. We like to make it too, preferably out of organic
vegetables that
would otherwise disappear into a dumpster. Then we like to share the results. Nuff
said.
